Camponotus bakeri

Does anyone have some information on this species? Antweb seems to depict them as a species that can only be found on the Channel Islands. Is that true?

Seems to be the case. I know of no mainland CA records.

Is there anything special about this species, or is it just like Camponotus hyatti? I go to the Channel Islands often to scuba dive, and I wonder if there is anything cool about these guys.

Unknown. At best, this ant is poorly studied.

I am going to look around for a colony next time I go to Catalina to scuba dive. Maybe I will do it while I am cleaning (scuba term for exerting nitrogen gained during last dive.)

Haha, yeah. Bends happen when a decompressing nitrogen bubble gets stuck in your brain, resulting in not so good things. I have found myself intrigued with this species, but I would ask, if I were to...

I am going to Anacapa Island in February and to Catalina Island in May, so I will keep this up to date then. This thread will include images of any ants I do find, specifically Camponotus Id's.
